Birthing a sacred healing drum...
I love to birth sacred spirit art drums + rattles and other earth art - as this sacred work is my art + passion. I birthed my own sacred drum about 29 years ago with my teacher... and i am i honoured to still hold + carry that special drum... she has become one of my best friends and offers healing in many ways.....
I birth all drums + rattles within sacred space... including all work is smudged, prayed over + blessed during the whole process of creation... depending on the size + type of drum, it can take me 15+ hours or more to birth and complete...

the spirit of the hides i work with...
I mostly work with the spirit of Deer, Goat and Elk when i birth my sacred drums/rattles, depending availabilty... Below is some info you can refer to on the spiritual aspects of these spirit hide/animal... i also invite you to go within to personally ask the spirit of the animal what it is they can teach + share with you...
Note... animal hides are skin and react to the environment around them, just like our own skin... it can get dry or moist depending on the humidity and the weather... drums birthed with animal hides constantly change with the weather, thus shifting their sound... and, when it's more humid or wet (raining), the hide will 'drink water' which can cause the sound to lower... where, in a more dryer or very cold environment, hides will tighten and sound much higher... When you birth your own sacred drum or purchase one from me, i will send you detailed info on how to properly take care of your drum and enliven it... A good 'rule of thumb' is to always be aware of extremes with any instrument - particularly with natural hide drums... never leave your instrument in an extremely hot or cold environment - just like you would never leave your child or beloved pet in those extremes as well... Sacred drums are living, breathing spirits that represent the voice of our dear mother earth... let us respect her beautiful spirit-voice! x (((o)))

The spirit of Deer helps to opens the heart chakra, teaching us to trust and to empower the feminine qualities of love and wisdom. When we are healing 'poverty consciousness', the belief that there is just not enough time, money or love, drumming with deer reminds us that we live in an abundant universe, with more than enough of everything. Deer helps us learn the laws of circulation – when we feel unloved, then it is time to love others, and that love comes back many-fold - deer can also teach us about the spirit of gentleness and understanding - to be gentle with ourselves, to offer kindness to all living things.
- working with deer on a drum is usually a lighter/thinner hide holding a good 'ring' sound... thinner hides are faster to 'drink water' thus becoming lower or flatter in humid or wetter climates like the westcoast where it can rain a lot... they are also quick to warm up/tighten too... and... they love to ‘sing’ often with many rich overtones...

Goat Spirit...
The spirit of Goat helps us to 'stand our ground'... and helps us with sure-footedness and balance.... We can call on the spirit of goat when we need independence coupled with plenty.... and, when we are ready to take on something new, and there is no need for guilt. Goat spirit helps with gaining confidence and firm cornerstones for personal or spiritual development. For those who find themselves stuck or wholly misplaced, the spirit of goat gets you moving again - Let that energy take you where you need to be for finding answers. Goat may not move swiftly, but slow and steady is best when you start losing balance... Once you’re on your way with goat guiding, you’ll find the determination necessary for success.

About the spirit of Elk... When we are working in the West on the Wheel of Life - it is the spirit of water, emotions and our shadow self... Elk spirit offers us the self-esteem, stamina, strength and endurance to get through the edges, from the known to the unknown with a strong voice. As we go through and face our fears, we expand ourselves and add more trust to our circle. Trust is the lubricant that helps us take the “leap of faith” that leads us to unity with spirit and to a reclaiming of our original grace. Elk can be a powerful spirit for helping heal child abuse and addictive patterns. The Elk can gently bring up our unresolved grief and help purify and cleanse us through crying and grieving our sweet tears. The vibration of Elk opens the third Chakra, at the belly, where we carry our fears and undigested values that interfere with our pure will. The Elk is a communal animal, hanging out with members of the same sex except during mating season.
- living in a more humid or wetter climate, Elk hide will not 'drink water' as fast as thinner hides and hold it's sound longer... Elk also holds a very warm, often lower sound depending on the thickness...

There are times when drums are passed on to me for whatever reason… sometimes for repair or rebirth… a dear friend passed this one on…
I believe the hide either is deer or elk spirit on a 12-inch hoop + someone has beautifully woven in a red-sinew dreamcatcher back handle… so i cleaned, re-birthed and got her singing again… i also painted a raven moon in gold acrylics on the front as i saw a bird flying within the hide.
Ravens can appear when transmutation has begun, teach us about deep listening + the beauty of our shadow and showing us the black void + journey us towards the otherworld… ravens also have an intriguing + wide vocabulary resonance… they love to dance in the winds and associated with divination + prophecy.
Raven is also known as the goddess Morrigan, Badb or Bran the Blessed from Celtic traditions, just to name a few.
I also created a light mallet to match from foraged wood… this drum is lovely to play with gentle, meditative sounds that connect sweetly + close to the heart. It’s small size is perfect as a travel drum or for healing being lightweight…

the spiral dancer ocean drum by weaver….
If you’re looking for a sound healing instrument, this ocean drum holds a very clearing, yet soothing sound, depending on how it is played. I prepared + painted this drum during a new moon cycle.
I have hand-painted a Remo brand, ocean drum (functional art/musical instrument) which, when the drum is held and played, sounds like the ocean waves against the shore—a very cool soothing sound.
We know the rain stick (originating from South America) is played vertically where, an ocean drum is played horizontally by gently rocking the drum from side to side, creating a spiral sound of the ocean waves rolling on the beach… or the drum can also be played on the lap, with the hands frame drum style. Her tidal rhythms can help transport and clear your energy field just as the salty ocean can.
The geophone, now often known as the ocean drum or as a wave drum or rain disk is a percussion instrument, invented by the French composer Olivier Messiaen for use in his large composition for piano and orchestra entitled Des canyons aux étoiles... (From the canyons to the stars)…
I have painted an abstract moon-snail shell in watercolours. I love that a shell forms from the centre out as a spiral. Everything in nature spirals out, including us humans, the ebb + flow of our oceans, tides, the moon, rituals of animals, birds, plants and trees…everything in our universe… as above, so below. Everything is a spiral dance!
The drum is 22-inches diameter x 2.25 inches height, ocean drum (vegan/Remo brand) includes wooden table stand (measures 18 x13-inches on table) and painted in watercolours and sealed with cold wax.

I recently birthed a womyn’s red frame drum for a local curated art show that happened through our local Arts Council which took me a month to complete—over a full month’s moon phase… and completed it on International Women’s Day, March 8th, 2023.
This, my Spirit Art Drum (functional art) was part of a group curated art show including community discussions held on Gabriola, through the Triumph program, Covid Vs Climate Change which ran the weekend of March 17-19, 2023. Art pieces chosen for the show could not for sale during the show run. However, now that the show is over, i am offering this beautiful drum for sale—to anyone called to hold her. I was asked to provide an Artist Statement re this spirit drum, of which you can read lower down on this post. (below the videos)
I birthed this special drum in mixed media of wood, rawhide, leather, plant dye, acrylics and gold leaf. This drum does not include a mallet—it is to be played in the traditional ‘frame drum’ style with the hands and fingers.
It’s size is 16-inch diameter x 2.75-inches high in a beautiful local yellow cedar wood. The voice of this drum is a very resonant goat hide dyed red in plant dyes of pomegrante, etc. The colour red is significant in ancient womyn’s frame drums which were often painted a red ochre representing the earth Mother, women’s blood mysteries, fertility and birth.
The lightweight yellow cedar frame includes a thumb-notch carved out for playing ease. The frame is also trimmed in leather and includes a secure rawhide hanger at the top. Inside the frame hoop i have hand-painted in red acrylics, Slavic symbols of poppy flowers to represent new birth/renewal/hope and remembrance including 8-pointed stars which represent protection—this symbol also dates back to ancient times from Babylonia at around 3,000 BC. It is also associated with the Goddess Ishtar, Isis or Aphrodite. Plus, within the inner hoop are over 350 burned-in prayers.
On the drum’s front face, i have also included a gold leaf poppy symbol to also represent the bindi—representing ‘the compacted energy of the universe before the first sound’… or, the ‘point from which creation begins.’ In ancient Goddess times, the womyn often painted a bindi in the middle of their drums. The art paintedalso honours the Slavic ancestry.

My Artist Statement—for the COVID Vs Climate Change Juried Art Show:
I came into this world drumming and have been birthing drums for the last 30 years since I was apprenticed by my teacher. How I approach my drum making art is through intuitive inquiry and contemplation. I allow the elements of wood and skin to inform me of what wants to come through as art. There is much spirit within the wood and skin; everything holds meaning for me and a big part of my spiritual practice.
The drum is universal and considered sacred in many cultures dating back to the neolithic age and beyond. The drum represents the ‘voice of our Mother earth’ and She is the earth.
When I considered responding to this call, my first thought was; ‘We as a mass consciousness have truly lost our right relationship to our earth Mother. For We are the earth and We are sick and broken—hence why we are now dealing with climate change and COVID, etc. After a number of sleepless nights and insight received, I realized that our Mother earth wanted to be a part of this show, that She wanted ‘Her voice’ in the room.
My process: I always paint something red in the inner hoop of the drum to honour the animal that gave its life to become a drum—also an honouring of the ‘blood of the Mother’, and a re-birthing to become a drum as wood + skin are in essence, living, breathing beings. Also, in the inner hoop are over 350 burned-in prayers.
The ‘bones’ of the drum: Local yellow cedar is sacred to these lands: it offers protection, cleansing and is known as the ‘world tree’.
The ‘voice’ of the drum: Goat spirit holds the energy of strength, trust and standing one’s ground for Mother earth. I have dyed the goat skin in natural plant dyes and the gold leaf dot/poppy flower placed on the drum’s center represents ‘the compacted energy of the universe before the first sound’… or, the ‘point from which creation begins.’ It also represents renewal and remembrance and honours the Slavic half of my ancestry. There is also a ‘wound’ that has showed up on Her face, within the hide.

wing-to-wing… new birth over this samhuinn/samhain time, last full moon in aries and this scorpio new moon… a 16-inch goat spirit i painted in gold acrylics… on the front is a gold raven touching the wing of the raven spirit that is within the beautiful goat hide at top right… she is also flying with the triple spiral that is carved on the front kerbstone at the ancient site of Newgrange, Ireland—built during the Neolithic period, around 3200 BC, making it older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids…
Raven holds many meanings... in Celtic cosmology Raven is associated with the goddess Mórrígan and Lugh, a sun god... also Brân, a protector of the people... Among the Irish Celts, Raven was associated with the Triple Goddess, the Morrigan, who took the shape of Raven over battlefields as Chooser of the Slain. She was a protector of warriors, such as Chuhulian and Fionn MacCual. Raven is also the totem of the pan-Celtic Sorceress/Goddess Morgan le Fay, who was also called the Queen of Faeries. In some tales, she is Queen of the Dubh Sidhe, or Dark Faeries, who were a race of tricksters who often took the form of ravens. "To have a raven's knowledge" is an Irish proverb meaning to have a seer's supernatural powers. Raven is considered one of the oldest and wisest of animals...

This rich sounding drum was recently birthed during the Taurus new moon (May 11/12)... in a beautiful Goat spirit on a 20-inch red ochre stained + burned hoop in maple wood... the back handle is finished with a found arbutus branch (bark was stripped off)... Painted on the side edges of the drum are dot-prayers in gold acrylics... comes with a mallet of a found branch of burned arbutus... the front face (hide) of this sacred drum is stunningly beautiful, showing much spirit within...

This warm sounding sacred drum has been birthed on a stained 14-inch lightweight maple hoop, with the inner hoop stained in red ochre and finished in beeswax and comes with a mallet. The hide is in beautiful + robust moose spirit and the 2nd degree Reiki symbol, 'Choku Rei' has been hand-painted in gold acrylics. 'Choku Rei' means, "place the power of the universe here now." This lightweight healing drum can be used by the practitioner easily for healing work, clearing and/or Reiki drumming... it also great for travel...
The ‘Choku Rei’ design has been double painted with dimensional dots on top... on top of the Reiki symbol is 135 dots which add up to the number ‘9’, (1+3+5=9), The number 9 is known as a completion number in numerology including universal love, eternity, love and service to humankind ... on the outer edge trim of the drum are 174 dots painted.. 1+7+4 =12... 1+2=3, the sign of the trinity... add all the dots together = 309... 3+0+9=12.. 1+2=3... so, interesting the drum adds up to a 3... the number 3 holds the spirit of creativity, communication + natural rhythms... ’3’ also resembles the mind/body/soul triad, the birth/life/death cycle including many other combinations of the ‘3’... more info on the spirit of 3 here >>

When i birth a sacred drum or rattle on your behalf, it is done mindfully within sacred space and your drum/rattle is smudged + blessed during the process from start to finish. I do use essential oils to bless/anoint during my process... All drums/rattles including Reiki drums are empowered with the Choku Rei symbol pray-fully blown into the sacred item.
(Choku Rei means, “place the power of the universe here now”).
Prices below include a hand-crafted mallet for drums - shipping/handling costs are extra. Hoops are in light-weight maple and present hide choice is Goat, Deer, Elk or Moose when available. Depending on available materials, timing to complete can take from 2 to 6 weeks... I like to keep you in the loop via email during the process...
I require half deposit or full payment to confirm your order. (by Interac e-transfer or money order by mail)... Once i receive your deposit, i begin work.
- All sales final... when the drum is complete, i will have the pkg weighed at our Post Office and get back to you with mailing price options, to give you a final total... once payment is received, the item is mailed out giving you tracking info + drum care instructions.

- adding the ‘Choku Rei‘ Reiki symbol or a small motif/symbol (4x4-inch) on your drum is $100 extra
- a full face painting in one colour is minimum $275 please contact me for a quote re detail of the work requested
